I was astounded and comforted to recognize His presence and His healing power made visible in my art. God’s gift of creativity became the language in which I told my story and in which I prayed. He was healing my whole person and deepening my relationship with Himself through artistic expression. 

This Bridegroom of The Song of Songs is Jesus. And you are His beloved, His bride. Whether your love for Him has yet to be awakened or is already a love in bloom, He calls you “Mine.” 

There is a longing in every human heart that we sense but often cannot name. I believe it is the longing to return home to Eden, to friendship and communion with God. In my prayer, I began asking the Holy Spirit to help me name this ache and envision Eden.

The message Our Lady of Guadalupe spoke to Juan Diego on December 12, 1531 echoes through the centuries bringing hope and comfort to all who hear and trust in her words.

The transforming of our hearts and the hearts of those in relationship with us all begins right Now. And again Now.  And again Now. God’s Grace is always here for us in this present moment.

I sat across from my spiritual director as he read this Scripture passage from Ezekiel to me. I had sat with him many many times in the past three three years but something was very different this March morning. My typical posture in spiritual direction had been slumped over, head in hands, sobbing.

 I have never been to an actual desert and yet I do not need to use my imagination to visualize this verse from Hosea. There are physical, geographical deserts and there are spiritual deserts. Christ the Bridegroom is our Living Water so any place, even our own hearts, devoid of His Presence is a barren desert.
